As the decision making body for ashram proceedures, the Board of Directors takes into consideration the opinions of the satsang. Participation and input from the satsang are essential and fully encouraged. All are invited to participate at General Meetings (scheduled before each Board meeting with notice posted on the sunroom bulletin board), to write letters to the Board, or to converse with or write to individual Board members in care of the ashram address (Neem Karoli Baba Ashram, P. O. Box 1710, Taos, NM 87571) or you may e-mail the board collectively at board@nkbashram.org
Letter from the President of the Board Dear Satsang Brothers and Sisters, The beauty of Maharaj-Ji’s lila and Hanuman-Ji’s presence in Taos continues to grow on me as I think it does on so many of us as devotees. The ashram has become not only a village temple for regular worship by the Taoseño satsang but a pilgrimage place for devotees of Neem Karoli Baba and Hanuman-Ji from all over the country. This year it also proved to be a place where we could celebrate life amidst the deaths of several satsang members. The memorials described by Mirabai Starr for Tyson and Ruth and Stephen and Heather brought our collective mourning into the spirit as both a source of solace and inspiration. These occasions were truly an expression of our satsang family, and I am deeply appreciative of everyone’s efforts to open doors and hearts and to feed relatives who would not normally participate at the ashram. A wonderful devotee of Maharaj-Ji in India, Kamala (Mrs. R.C.) Soni, related this story about Maharaj-Ji. "Maharajji asked an Indian girl four times, " Do you like sorrow or joy?" Each time the girl answered, " I've never known joy, Maharajji, only sorrow." Finally, Maharajji said, " I love sorrow. It brings me closer to God." As an institution the ashram continues to wrestle with the needs of building a new temple to give Hanuman-Ji a proper home and expanding to meet the needs of visiting devotees. The board of the temple met in May to review progress, hold elections and organize for the coming year. Jean Jacques Danon and Raghuvindra Das Markus came aboard as new board members, and Hanuman Das/ John Kane agreed to be Vice-President, with much of the responsibility for overseeing day to day board policy. He replaces Krishna Priya, who remains on the board. We are indebted to her for years of painstaking devotion to ashram details. Longtime member Ram Rani Rosser cycled off the board. Her energy and devotion to making the Ashram stable and secure will continue to inspire and support us. |
