Legal Matters

A Local devotee has bought the house

The good news first! By the grace of Maharaj-ji, a local devotee has bought the house and the land to the west of the Ashram property. Because of this, the lawsuit that the previous owners brought against the ashram (maintaining that the activities at the Ashram lowered their property value and constituted a nuisance) will be dropped. This is exciting news for the Ashram, not only because it puts an end to the lawsuit, but also because the house and land will be occupied by one of Baba's own, and we will be able to work together to improve the whole area.

Ashram Not Currently Engaged in Any Legal Battles

The other good news is that, at present, the Ashram is not engaged in any other legal battles, and therefore we are not adding any more to the balance of our legal debt. Jai Ho!

Board Seeking Creative Solutions to the Parking Problem

Now for the not so good news. The Ashram finally had its hearing in District Court about the case involving parking on the rear six acres of the ashram's property. The District Court upheld the Zoning Authority's decision that if the Ashram wanted to use the rear six acres for parking, we would have to apply for a new special use permit. We have the right to appeal this decision, however the Board of Directors determined that the best course for now would be to apply for the permit and see what the Town's response will be. In the meantime, the Board and the satsang are trying to come up with creative solutions to the parking problem. Hopefully, with the grace of our Baba, the Town will allow us use our back acreage for parking once again.
